The race route for the Brighton Marathon starts with a loop of gorgeous Preston Park, and then takes in the best of the city centre including Brighton Pavilion and fabulous stretches of coastal road, including panoramic views that you’d expect where the glorious South Downs meet the English Channel.

Generally, it is a fast course, held exclusively on roads and tarmac promenade. The entire route is free of traffic and where necessary, there are barriers and/or tape separating runners from pedestrians, street furniture and other potential hazards.

Of course there are some undulations in the route, principally in the first 11 miles of the race, while the last 15 miles - good news this for entrants - is either flat or downhill. The last mile is along the seafront road beside thousands of cheering spectators, while the fabulous Finish is in Madeira Drive, just east of the brilliant Brighton Pier.

The Wall going up and down – fast!
